As I cross the Pont Neuf, the façade of La Samaritaine Paris pulls me in like a magnet. The Christmas windows Paris 2025 sparkle in the soft winter light, garlands along the golden façade, Christmas trees at the entrance, and inside, a glow that feels like the beginning of a Parisian fairytale.
La Samaritaine is a large department store in the first arrondissement of Paris, established in 1870 and now owned by the luxury goods conglomerate LVMH (Louis Vuitton). And right there, my first Christmas story of 2025 begins.

What makes La Samaritaine Paris so special during Christmas and New Year?
La Samaritaine Paris is more than just a department store; it’s a chapter of Parisian history. Built between 1903 and 1910 by architect Frantz Jourdain, it’s a masterpiece of art nouveau, with glass, wrought iron, and gold leaf as its signature.
La Samaritaine Paris, founded in 1870 by Ernest Cognacq, is now owned by LVMH, home to brands like Louis Vuitton. Across the street, you’ll find the LV Dream exhibition, the Louis Vuitton restaurant, and the boutique. This is a reminder that luxury has long found its home in this corner of Paris.
What unique Christmas activities can you experience in Paris?
Experience the magic of Paris during Christmas and New Year with unforgettable family friendly activities and tours. From dazzling Christmas lights tours, sightseeing, and festive Seine cruises to iconic cabaret shows on New Year’s Eve. Celebrate Parisian history and culture. Paris offers once-in-a-lifetime moments you don’t want to miss.
When I step inside, it feels as if I’m traveling back in time. The colors, the ornaments, the way the winter light filters through the glass ceiling, everything breathes the grandeur of the Belle Époque.
What I love most is how Paris preserves its soul. You can still feel the luxury of another era, but it’s alive, modern, and effortlessly chic. I imagine Parisians from decades past wandering these same aisles, dressed differently, yet searching for the same things: beauty, refinement, and a little sparkle before the new year begins.
This is one of the most beautiful department stores in Paris. It feels smaller than Galeries Lafayette or Printemps, more intimate and personal — yet looks can be deceiving. The building stretches gracefully from Pont Neuf to Rue de Rivoli. The grand staircase and stunning glass dome are best seen when you enter through the Pont Neuf entrance. The Christmas windows wrap around the entire building — along Quai du Louvre, Rue de la Monnaie, and Rue de Rivoli — each side offering a slightly different festive perspective of Paris.

How does La Samaritaine celebrate the art of wrapping and giving?

At La Samaritaine, Christmas and New Year celebrations are all about the art of giving. On the ground floor, the Studio d’Emballage invites visitors to explore how to fold, tie, and present gifts like small works of art.
It’s not a formal studio, but a charming corner where you can wrap your own purchases using beautiful papers, ribbons, and bows.
Prices for this Paris gift-wrapping experience vary depending on the size — from €14 to €24 — with extras such as calligraphed labels, wax seals, gold letters on ribbons, or custom knots (€5–€15). It’s a small counter, so best visited during quieter moments.
In collaboration with Impression Originale and Nona Source — which repurposes couture fabrics from LVMH fashion houses — the wrapping experience turns sustainable creativity into art. Think silk from Dior or velvet from Vuitton reborn as holiday ribbon. Even a gift box becomes a Parisian statement of style.

The French artist Elsa Tomkowiak, known for her colorful public art, has turned the store into a living artwork of motion and color. She plays with flowing ribbons in rich tones of red, pink, blue, and orange — wrapping the building in a dance of light.
In collaboration with Nona Source, which reuses luxurious couture fabrics, the entire decoration embodies sustainability and style. Every floor, every corner, celebrates the joy of giving — elegantly, quietly, beautifully.
The La Samaritaine advent calendar has also returned. Each day in December, one lucky visitor wins a luxury surprise — from jewelry and perfumes to gourmet experiences and travel gifts.
