The madness of Black Friday
Every last Friday in November, the world goes into a shopping frenzy. Discounts scream at us from all sides to buy more—often things we don’t really need, just filling our homes. This feels absurd, especially now, when the planet is crying out for us to change our habits. Why would we focus on overconsumption when we could instead focus on something that truly matters?
Ask what someone needs
Let’s turn this frenzy into something beautiful. Start by simply asking friends, neighbors, or family: what do you need? Maybe it’s a little help with groceries or someone to share a meal with. So often, we can brighten someone’s day with a small gesture.
Let’s not forget those who have it especially hard—the homeless. Ask them what they need. It might be a warm blanket, a hot coffee, or just a kind conversation. Show that Paris has a warm heart for everyone by giving them something they need, no matter how small.
Instead of buying things, let’s focus on giving Think of the clothes you no longer wear, the books gathering dust, or the time you could spend helping someone. There are countless organizations in Paris where you can make donations, so let’s make this a chance to give back to our community.
