Only one month to go until the opening of the Olympic Games in Paris. This has undoubtedly impacted daily life in the city. Paris has been busy with practical preparations for over a year.
Beautification Efforts in Paris Ahead of the Olympics
The buildings look more beautiful than ever, the streets are being refurbished, and the parks are being redeveloped. I admire this enormous operation and see the city becoming more beautiful day by day. The walks offer increasingly better views, and the parks will become even more pleasant. I think it’s fantastic and highly recommend you visit Paris once the hustle and bustle of the Olympic Games are over.
Challenges Faced by Parisians
Not everyone is happy with this event, as it has a significant impact on daily life. People can’t enjoy the parks, roads are closed, and metros aren’t running. The metro fare will be €4 instead of €1.65, and dining out will become more expensive. It often makes daily life challenging.
Additionally, the event costs 5 billion, with 1 billion spent on cleaning the Seine. On 23 June, Mayor Anne Hidalgo will dive into the Seine to prove the water is clean.
Unique French Protest Against Olympic
And what do the French do when they disagree with the government? Exactly, they protest! This time with #jechiedanslaseine23juin, which means ‘I shit in the Seine on 23 June’. Because they feel that ‘after they’ve put us in the shit, it’s their turn to bathe in it’. Toilets have been installed for the protest.
Privacy Tips for Protest Participants 😉
I can imagine you’d prefer more privacy and a secluded spot. This has been considered too. On this website, you can calculate the best time to relieve yourself and let the current of the Seine carry it so that your protest arrives in Paris on time
