The Christmas Market Tuileries is not the quiet, cosy market you might imagine; it’s a vibrant, lively festive fair right in the center of Paris.
Walking through it feels like stepping into a bustling carnival filled with lights, music, and energy. It’s large, adventurous, and full of attractions for both children and adults. Unlike markets such as La Villette, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, or La Défense, this one isn’t focused on handcrafted gifts or artisanal products, it’s all about fun, excitement, and the full-on holiday spectacle.
I have to admit, it took me a moment to get used to this overwhelming market in the historic center. The sheer size, the lights, and the buzz were intense at first, but I quickly got swept up in the festive atmosphere.

What is the history of the Christmas Market Tuileries?
It’s a funny thought, knowing that in the summer I stroll here for picnics, with the serene Louvre just steps away, filled with monumental art (though sadly not all survived the last upheavals). The Tuileries Garden, originally laid out in 1564 for Catherine de’ Medici and later redesigned by André Le Nôtre, has been central to Parisian life for centuries.
The Christmas market moved here from the Champs-Élysées in 2018. Today it features around 80 wooden chalets. Unlike La Villette or Saint-Germain-des-Prés, it’s not about handcrafted gifts or artisanal products, but about fun, spectacle, and energy.
What makes the Christmas Market Tuileries so lively?
The energy is contagious. What makes this market so alive? The rides, the lights, the constant buzz. I went with some friends to the haunted house, obviously not scary for adults, but we had a good laugh. The giant Ferris wheel is another highlight: fantastic for seeing the whole city spread out below. Everywhere you look there’s action, music, and color, making it a full-on urban Christmas adventure.
